Syrian President al-Julani rejected this evening (Sunday) President Donald Trump's idea that Syria disarm the terrorist organization Hezbollah by force.
""You will not see Syria entering Lebanon to fight against Hezbollah," said the Syrian president.
In an interview with the Emirati Al-Mashhad channel, he said: "We only wish well for the residents of Lebanon, and the role that Syria will play is an entirely positive one. Syria may help disarm Hezbollah, but not through war or through Syrian patronage of Lebanon, as was the case during the previous regime."'
Al-Sharaa also does not outright reject the possibility of dialogue with Hezbollah, if it would serve the interests of Syria and Lebanon.
Regarding an Israeli-Lebanese peace agreement, A-Shara says that this is unrealistic: "There are issues that should be fully resolved before a true peace can be established. We strive for the region to be calm and secure without wars. Let's say Israel and Lebanon sign a peace agreement between them and that night a missile is launched from Lebanese territory towards Israel, then what is the point of this peace if it creates the opposite. For every agreement you sign, you have to be able to fulfill the obligations.".
Earlier today, President Trump said: "I'm disappointed that Israel can't move Hezbollah. They can't do anything without blowing up a few buildings,",
He said he is close to "giving the handling of Hezbollah to Syria. I believe he will do a more precise job in terms of how he will deal with Hezbollah.".
