Odelia, the mother of the 22-year-old Abraha Aviel Cohen, who was arrested today (Monday) at the Gilat Junction, near Ofakim, spoke this evening with Yaakov Grodka on Kol Berama radio - while crying.
"I suffer from high blood pressure and I'm on pills now, I can't believe this happened," said the mother. "I'm begging them to take him out! If you have anything to do - please do it. I screamed when I heard he was arrested, I won't survive like this, do something and now, I can't take another minute.".
The mother added: "For years I voted for Shas, why? Why should my son be in prison? I am very disappointed, it is horrible. Surely Aryeh Deri could have done something, at least he would have done something now, if it were his son - would this have happened?""
Hodiya Cohen, the husband's wife, said on the broadcast on 'Kol Berama': "The police carried out a kidnapping. I screamed and cried at them, I asked how they had the heart to separate a husband and wife in the first year of marriage. They refused to let me even say hello to him, I had to chase the car.".
Hopni Cohen, the father of the avrach, said on Kol Berama: "My son was driving at the Gilat intersection today and saw a police car and military police behind it. They ordered him to stop and started checking his tires and tried to check if he had committed a traffic offense. Even though he had not committed any offense, they handcuffed him. They threatened his wife that if she called and took a picture, they would take her cell phone.".
Testimony from passersby indicates that the man did not commit any traffic offense but remained in his vehicle, and the police car that was on the scene called for him to pull over, with a military police car behind it.
The military police officers 'pulled' the young man out of his vehicle.
Aviel, an only child, studied at the Be'er Talmud yeshiva in his youth, from where he continued to study at the Kollel Avrehim in the Kfar Avraham neighborhood in Petah Tikva after his marriage. Just a week ago, the couple moved their residence to Netivot to help his mother, who needs close assistance, and he planned to enter Rabbi Abergel's Kollel Avrehim in Netivot.
Following the mother's attack on Shas - MK Yoav Ben-Zur spoke this evening with the child's parents.
