The struggle for the world of Torah: MK Yossi Taib and MK Yoni Mashriki made a special visit to Prison 10 this morning (Monday), with the aim of closely monitoring the condition of the 'deserters' imprisoned there - and strengthening their spirits.
During the visit, they held talks with detainees, inquired about the conditions of their detention, and expressed their firm stand by their side.
Among the detainees, they met Gabriel Fitoussi, a young man from France whose parents live abroad. The Knesset members took care of his needs in front of the prison commander.
When they left prison, they spoke with his father and conveyed words of encouragement and strength from their son.
Also, upon leaving the prison, they met the young man's father, Yosef Levi, who sits outside the prison gates throughout the day as a sign of solidarity with his imprisoned son.
MK Yossi Taib: "The ousted attorney general's obsessive persecution of Torah students has crossed every line! The Shas movement will not remain silent or let up. We will continue to fight with all the tools at our disposal until Torah students can sit and study in peace, and receive the respect they deserve.".
MK Yoni Mashriqi: "What we saw today in Prison 10 is outrageous and chilling. Yeshiva students whose only sin is studying Torah are being held behind bars. This is not a state of law, this is persecution. Shas will stand like a wall in defense of Torah students, and we will not rest until the last one of them is released and returns to his yeshiva.".
Former ambassador to the Tomah, Gilad Erdan, attacked: "Our heroic soldiers are fighting on all fronts, but Shas MKs are visiting deserters in prison instead of taking care of the fighters. This disgrace must be stopped.".
MK Taib was not left unscathed: "As a fighter in Givati, with three of my brothers serving in the IDF and fighting for the country, I don't need lessons in patriotism from anyone. The attempt to use soldiers and war to make a political comeback is cynical and embarrassing.".
""As someone who serves as president of MDA, you were expected to respect the thousands of ultra-Orthodox volunteers who dedicate their time to saving lives every day of the year and seek to preserve the value of the Torah. With your words, you are hurting them as well. Not everything has to go through petty politics.".
