The Knesset plenum approved in first reading tonight (Tuesday) the bill to dissolve the 25th Knesset by MK Ofir Katz and a group of MKs.
The vote was supported by 106 Knesset members, with no opponents or abstentions, and it will be returned to the Knesset committee for discussion.
It is proposed to determine that the 25th Knesset will dissolve before the end of its term, and that the elections for the 26th Knesset will take place between the 26th of Elul 5775 (September 8, 2026) and the 9th of Cheshvan 5777 (October 20, 2026).
Knesset Committee Chairman, MK Ofir Katz: "We have completed four full years, which is unusual in Israeli politics, and we worked hard to get to this point. We passed over 520 laws and nine budgets in this Knesset. In fact, we held out until the end.".
The explanatory notes to the proposal state: "According to Article 34 of the Basic Law: The Knesset, a bill is being submitted to dissolve the Twenty-fifth Knesset before the end of its term.
When preparing the bill for first reading, the Knesset committee decided to specify the range of dates between September 8, 2026, and October 20, 2026, as the date on which the elections will be held, prior to the election date according to the Basic Law, i.e. October 27, 2026.
"When preparing the bill for second and third reading, the Knesset committee will determine the date of the elections.".
The exact date will be determined in due course, in accordance with the agreement with the Haredim.
