The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee held a heated debate this morning (Wednesday) on the bill 'Denying Benefits from Senior Officials in the Defense Establishment'.
The bill was submitted by MKs Osher Shekalim and Ariel Kelner of the Likud. The meeting was scheduled to prepare the bill for first reading.
During the discussion, a heated verbal confrontation developed between the committee chairman, MK Boaz Bismut, and MK Elazar Stern.
Stern protested the very fact that the discussion was taking place and hurled accusations at Bismuth: "You are interfering with the IDF commanders, you are interfering with the residents of the north and with the protection of them and the reservists.".
Stern added: "You're not having a discussion about how to carry the burden.".
Bismuth slammed Stern: "I've been heading the committee for 10 months, who was the intelligence minister in 2021? Who served as head of the IDF and didn't recruit Haredim? You need to be investigated!""
In response to the storm that developed, Bismuth ordered the Knesset ushers to throw Stern out of the debate room: "Go find a party, get out!".
