The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Monday) with the Beer Sheva Magistrate's Court against a 56-year-old Ashdod resident, after he forged $50 bills worth approximately $1.5 million.
The indictment filed by Attorney Shiral Farjoun of the Southern District Attorney's Office indicates that last year the defendant purchased a photocopier and, using special templates designed for this purpose, counterfeited $1,494,500 worth of $50 bills.
He packed the bills in cartons, in bundles of 100 bills each. In total, the defendant counterfeited 29,890 bills.
The defendant was charged with counterfeiting a banknote and possession of material for counterfeiting banknotes.
The case was investigated by the Lachish Police Chief.
