The IDF is preparing to soon introduce new weapons into use in southern Lebanon to deal with the drone threats of the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

According to a report this evening (Tuesday) by Itai Blumenthal on 'Kan Hades', these are 5.56 caliber fragmentation bullets, suitable for the M-16 and Tabor assault rifles used by IDF fighters in the field.

Those bullets contain five iron balls designed to increase the radius of impact against drones by about 30 meters.

The new means is supposed to significantly increase the chance of hitting targets in the air, and it has proven itself in the past on the battlefield in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

A delegation from the ground forces arrived in the US in recent days to conduct experiments on the weapons. Following the success of the experiments, the commander of the ground forces ordered the purchase of hundreds of thousands of boxes of ammunition from the US.

According to estimates, the shipment is expected to arrive in Israel next week.

The report notes that the IDF is interested in equipping every soldier with a magazine containing the fragmentation ammunition, so that it will be possible to conduct rapid fire at drones using their personal weapons.

Along with this equipment, fighters in the field were given additional instructions for dealing with drones, including, among other things, deploying nets on buildings and military vehicles.

The combination of special ammunition and physical protection in the field is intended to reduce the effectiveness of Hezbollah drones in combat in southern Lebanon.
