The National Security Committee convened today (Tuesday) to discuss the issue of bullying on Israeli roads - during which the extent of the phenomenon of drivers flouting the law and continuing to drive even after their license has been revoked by the court or the police was revealed.

The police representative at the hearing, Chief of Police Shimon Marciano, presented a statistic that left the committee members shocked: "In the State of Israel, there are 330,000 drivers who drive while disqualified.".

The committee's chairman, MK Zvika Fogel, responded sharply: "There are 330,000 murderers on the road.".

Marciano also referred to the breakdown of those involved in traffic accidents, noting: "About 50 percent of those involved in accidents are Arabs.".

According to him, the police are working determinedly to change the situation and "we are unequivocally seeing a significant decrease in the number of traffic accidents. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 131 fatalities compared to the same period last year when we had 150. We have doubled the number of vehicles and police officers.".
