Firefighters from the Binyamin region, with the assistance of teams from neighboring districts, are working on a fire that broke out in a commercial complex in the Gan Hadassim area in the Haredi city of Modiin Illit.
The fire broke out in a huge commercial building located on Beit Shamai Boulevard - and heavy smoke is enveloping the entire area.
Sub-Inspector Shlomi Harosh, commander of the Binyamin region: "This is a building used as a shopping complex, built of lightweight construction.
Upon arrival, firefighters detected heavy smoke rising from the building and strong heat radiation. Crews began extinguishing the fire, focusing their efforts on preventing the fire from spreading.
""In assessing the situation on the ground, we identified a risk of collapse of the structure and the forces are working outside the structure with the assistance of a high-altitude crane and special vehicles for water supply. Due to the size of the incident and the order of forces required for the fire, additional teams were deployed from the Judea and Samaria district and neighboring districts.".
""I ask residents of Modi'in Illit not to approach the scene of the fire and to allow firefighters to work without interference.".
Police officers from the Modi'in Illit station are working at the scene to direct traffic.
