Brigadier General Barak Hiram assumed his duties as head of the IDF Operations Brigade at a change of commanders ceremony held yesterday (Monday) at the Rabin Camp in Kirya.
The ceremony was held under the leadership of Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Head of the Operations Division, Major General Itzik Cohen, and was attended by members of the General Staff Forum, commanders and family members.
Brigadier General Hiram said upon assuming the position that he accepted the responsibility out of a sense of mission and humility: "I am very excited to assume the position of head of the Operations Division today, out of a sense of mission and humility. We are in a multi-threat war, which exacts painful prices both physically and mentally. The war began with failure, moved on to recovery and resulted in many achievements for the State of Israel.".
According to him, the IDF continues to fight in all sectors even these days: "Even these days, we continue to fight in all sectors, with the good of the people of Israel and the State of Israel before our eyes. The Operations Brigade is the beating heart of the IDF and is at the heart of action in all sectors. I believe that the true strength of the brigade lies in the people - each and every one here contributes their professional knowledge to the entire operational effort.".
He emphasized: "We still have a lot of work to do, and we are faced with many challenges and tasks. I believe in you, in the success of the brigade, and in the success of the IDF for the security of the State of Israel.".
Hiram, born in 1979, enlisted in the Golani Brigade in 1997. Throughout his service, he held a number of senior command positions, including commander of Battalion 51, commander of the Golani Infantry Regiment, commander of the Golan Brigade, commander of the Fire Training Center, commander of the Golani Brigade, and commander of Division 99.
In 2024, he was appointed commander of the Gaza Division, a position he held until this year. He has now assumed the position of head of the Operations Brigade, one of the main brigades in the IDF's Operations Directorate.
Hiram was born and raised in Haifa to a secular family. He converted to Judaism, lives in the Tekoa settlement, and is the father of four children.
