The discussion held today (Tuesday) in the Knesset Finance Committee on budget requests was closed after a short time - due to the coalition's lack of a majority.

The reason: Degel chairman, MK Moshe Gafni, informed the coalition leaders that due to the lack of progress in advancing the 'dormitory law' promoted by United Torah Judaism, two Degel representatives on the Finance Committee will vote against all budget transfers that will be brought to the committee for approval today.

Yesterday, the Shas and United Torah Judaism factions announced in a joint statement: "We have now informed the coalition chairman that due to the failure to put the dormitory law on the agenda, we will not vote today in favor of coalition legislation in the Knesset plenum.".

The Finance Committee approved the 'Dorm Law' for first reading last Tuesday, after about two weeks ago the law was approved in a preliminary reading in the Knesset plenum with a majority of 44 supporters against 37 opponents.
