Retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron today (Monday) sent a brief response to petitions against the appointment of Attorney Michael Rabillo to the position of State Comptroller.
He claims that the second vote by Knesset members was illegal - and he is seeking to freeze Rabillo's entry into office.
The response reads: "Respondent Elron joins the petitioners' claims insofar as they relate to the illegality of the second vote, which was held in the Knesset building. Respondent Elron also joins the request to grant the remedies detailed in the petitions, including the interim relief of freezing Respondent 4's entry into the position of State Comptroller."
Avishai Greenzig, legal commentator for Channel I24, noted that Elron appears to be disavowing Rabilo's conflict of interest claim, raised by MK Naama Lazimi.
Rabillo was elected to the position earlier this month by a majority of 61 votes in the Knesset plenum, compared to Elron's 57. Rabillo, who also serves as Netanyahu's attorney, beat retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron.
He won in a third round of voting. In the previous round, a storm erupted in the plenum after it was claimed that Likud MKs were instructed to film themselves voting from behind the curtain.
