United Torah Judaism Chairman, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, was the first senior Haredi figure to condemn this evening (Wednesday) the break-in and vandalism committed by extremists at the home of the Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Justice Noam Solberg.
Alongside this, Goldknopf chose to attack the government: "Along with the full support of Torah scholars whose honor and status have been trampled underfoot by the current government and who express their pain, I condemn the violence that has no place in our society, is contrary to Torah teachings, and harms the just struggle to save the world of Torah," the MK wrote.
Towards midnight, the Shas and Degel Hatorah factions also issued a joint statement of condemnation:
""We are pained and shocked by the ongoing persecution and trampling of Torah scholars by the Supreme Court justices. We have warned time and again that these steps will lead to radicalization and anarchy, and unfortunately we are seeing how these fears are being realized.".
The two Haredi factions emphasized: "We strongly condemn any act of violence, of any kind. Violence is contrary to the path of Torah and is completely unacceptable.".
""However, we demand that the leaders of the right-wing parties, who were quick and right to condemn the incident, also condemn the ongoing and cruel persecution of Torah students and yeshiva students. The blood of Torah students is not in vain.".
