The Politico website reported that David Wecht, a judge on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, announced that he was leaving the Democratic Party following a rise in anti-Semitism among key figures in the party.

Justices of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court are directly elected by the public. Justice David Wecht was elected to the court as a Democrat in 2015.

In his resignation statement, Wecht said that due to "the acceptance of Jew-hatred that is becoming disturbingly widespread among activists, leaders, and even many elected officials in the Democratic Party," he was leaving the Democrats.

The judge also said in his statement that he has long felt anti-Semitism taking hold on the fringes of the political right. Things took root especially after the shooting at the Tree of Life in Pittsburgh in 2018, where Wecht previously served as a board member.

Since the shooting incident, the judge felt that the same hatred had grown on the left.

Judge Wecht said that anti-Semitism is growing in the United States: "More and more, it has moved from the margins to the mainstream. It is the duty of all good people to fight this virus, and to do so before it is too late.".
