An unusual event occurred this morning (Saturday) in eastern Gush Etzion: A reserve soldier, who owns a farm located near the settlement of Peni Kedem, spotted a motorized paraglider that had entered the airspace over one of the settlements in the bloc.
The soldier, who suspected that this was an attempt by terrorists to infiltrate from the air, fired his personal weapon at the parachute. There were no casualties and no damage was caused. The aircraft moved away from the scene.
An initial investigation revealed that the paraglider took off from the Valley area after making the required prior coordination with military officials, but during the flight it deviated from its approved route - and crossed into the sector of responsibility of the corresponding brigade in the Judea and Samaria Division, where it was identified as a hostile entity.
An IDF spokesman said: "Earlier today, a reserve soldier spotted a motorized paraglider that had entered the airspace of an Israeli settlement in eastern Gush Etzion. The soldier fired at the parachute, without damage or casualties. The paraglider moved away.
""After an examination, it turned out that this was a paraglider that took off from the valley area in coordination and exceeded the airspace that corresponded to it. The incident is being investigated.".
