The UN General Assembly held a heated debate on the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the violation of global freedom of navigation, during which Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon made serious accusations against the French ambassador.
The discussion was convened after a Bahraini resolution proposal on the issue was blocked in the Security Council, which shifted the center of gravity of the diplomatic struggle to the Assembly hall.
During his speech, the Israeli ambassador to the UN chose to abandon diplomatic manners - and pointed a direct finger of accusation at the French ambassador.
Danon relied on international reports, according to which French-owned vessels were allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz unhindered, while Iran detained ships from other countries.
""The question is simple: How much did you pay Iran?" Danon scolded the stunned French ambassador. "According to reports, a French-owned vessel passed through the Strait of Hormuz while others were detained. Giving in to blackmail strengthens those who threaten the world, it does not stop them.".
Danon defined Iranian activity in Egypt as "economic terrorism" aimed at the oxygen pipeline of international trade.
He said countries that choose to pay for safe passage are not buying silence. "Those who pay Iran under pressure are not buying silence, they are strengthening its threat mechanism," Danon warned. "Those who pay for passage today will pay a much higher price tomorrow.".
