In a discussion held this morning (Tuesday) in the Knesset Finance Committee, opposition members attacked the committee's convening during the election period - claiming that transferring funds to the Haredi public is "election bribery.".
But then MK Yinon Azoulay of Shas pulled out the protocols, and the facts spoke for themselves - they did the same thing during the days of the 'government of change' - a week before the elections.
MK Mickey Levy claimed in the debate: "This section has not been used for 20 years" - however, the minutes show that in the previous election campaign, when Levy served as Knesset Speaker, he himself used the same section to convene the Finance Committee just a week before the elections, within the framework of which coalition funds were approved for the Yesh Atid, Yamina and Yisrael Beiteinu parties.
Shas says: "So what has changed? Not the law, not the clause, not the procedure - just the identity of the government. What was completely legitimate when the Bennett-Lapid government did this, suddenly became 'election bribery' when the current government acts in the same way. Political hypocrisy.".
