Police officers from the National Economic Crime Investigation Unit of Lahav 433, together with the National Investigation Unit in charge of insolvency and economic rehabilitation procedures at the Ministry of Justice, detained several businessmen this morning (Monday), including a contractor who is in bankruptcy proceedings.
Among those detained are a former Likud MK who holds a central position in the party, and a well-known businessman and real estate agent who is very close to Shas.
According to suspicion, the suspect contractor, who has been in bankruptcy proceedings since 2012, acted to conceal his rights to various real estate assets, worth tens of millions of shekels, and even smuggled assets under his control while he was in bankruptcy proceedings.
In doing so, he violated his obligation to disclose and report his assets in the proceedings.
The findings of the investigation indicate that the suspects acted in a sophisticated and systematic manner in order to hide their rights from the authorities and pocket huge sums of money.
It is suspected that the selling contractor sold properties to figures close to him at very low prices, who then sold his properties to a third party at regular and even high prices, transferred the money to him - and received monetary compensation from him.
With the transition to open investigation and the detention of the suspects, a large amount of property was seized with the aim of confiscating it in the further legal proceedings.
