Senior political commentator Amit Segal wrote in his column in Israel Hayom that the threat of drones is currently at the center of Shin Bet chief David Zini's concerns.
According to him, the defense establishment sees drones as a weapon that fundamentally changes the battlefield.
There is concern in the security establishment that after the attack on Iran's proxy axis, Tehran will attempt to change the balance of threats using drones launched from southern Lebanon, Gaza, or Judea and Samaria.
""Drones taking off from southern Lebanon are Hezbollah's only weapon that has caused real harm to human life. Why wouldn't they try the same thing from Gaza, and especially from Judea and Samaria?" Segal wondered.
He raised a scenario of a drone attack on a public event attended by senior state officials: "And what if this time a group of drones crashed on the completion of an officers' course attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff?""
""Zini is very concerned about such scenarios, and it can be determined that, in general, the danger of drones is at the center of his concerns these days, and not that he lacks them," Segal wrote.
He claims that the government meeting held this week at a secret location is an expression of understanding the threat, and he believes that alongside the fight against rockets and missiles, Israel will be required to adapt its security concept to also deal with the drone threat.
