For the second time in a week: Syrian authorities announced today (Tuesday) that they had foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons from the country's territory to Lebanon.
According to estimates, the ammunition was intended to reach the terrorist organization Hezbollah.
The Syrian Border and Customs Authority announced that customs officers at the Jadidat Yabus border crossing were suspicious of a private vehicle that was on its way to Lebanon, and sent it for a comprehensive inspection.
During the search, with the assistance of the canine unit, 226 small bombs, which appeared to be grenade launcher ammunition, as well as additional ammunition, were located inside the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and legal proceedings were taken against him.
Last week, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that security forces had foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons across the border with Iraq, which the authorities claim were intended to reach Hezbollah in Lebanon.
During the operation, a truck was stopped in which 150 explosive drones, anti-tank missiles, and long-range missiles were found. The published seizure records revealed that among the weapons seized was a large quantity of suicide FPV drones. Components including fiber optic coils and anti-tank missile warheads were also seen.
