On the morning of October 7, 2023, Hyman attended the Nova Festival, which was held near Kibbutz Re'im. She came to the festival to serve as an emotional therapist and help people who might have experienced distress during the party.
When the Hamas attack began, Heyman hid under the party stage. When she learned that there were terrorists near the stage, she sought shelter for about three hours. Finally, when she reached the orchards of Kibbutz Be'eri, she was murdered and her body was taken away by Hamas terrorists.
On December 16, 2023, approximately 71 days after her body was abducted, it was allowed to be published that Hayman had been murdered and her body was being held by Hamas.
In April 2025, an IDF spokesman announced that the terrorist Jalal al-Quran, who took part in the murder of Hayman, had been eliminated.
On October 15, 2025, two years and eight days after her murder and kidnapping, Heyman's body was returned from Hamas captivity as part of the third hostage deal. Her funeral was held two days later, on October 17. The funeral procession departed from Rishon LeZion and ended at the Yarkon Cemetery in Petah Tikva, where her body was buried.
After her body was returned, it was announced that during her military service, Heyman was a commander in the Karakal Battalion and that she fought terrorists who tried to kidnap her before they murdered her.
