An 80-year-old man was rescued from the rubble on Monday afternoon, lifeless, after a balcony collapsed onto a restaurant on JNF Street in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Firefighters, police, MDA, and rescue organizations were called to the scene and worked to rescue trapped people and treat the injured.
According to ZAKA, fire and rescue forces operating at the scene rescued an 80-year-old man who was trapped under the rubble, and MDA teams were forced to confirm his death at the scene.
ZAKA volunteers from the Jerusalem District are at the scene and are assisting emergency forces, working to treat the deceased with dignity and collect the remains.
Rescue forces provided medical treatment to three other injured people in light condition.
This is a three-story residential building, where a balcony on the second floor collapsed onto a restaurant located on the first floor.
As a result of the collapse, extensive damage was caused to the building and the restaurant.
United Hatzalah doctor Aryeh Yaffe and paramedics Nachman Tovul, Yosef Gabbay and Ariel Deri, who arrived first at the scene: "We were told at the scene that the glass ceiling of the business had suddenly collapsed and the customers were trapped underneath it. We provided medical treatment to three lightly injured people, who were evacuated from the scene.
""Firefighters are carrying out operations to rescue the trapped. United Hatzalah's Hosn unit teams are providing psychological assistance at the scene due to the nature of the incident.".
MDA paramedics Eli Eisenbach, Daniel Elyakim and Meir Gershoni said: "We received a report of a balcony that collapsed onto a business. We arrived at the scene with large forces and noticed a number of frightened wounded people coming towards us, and a man trapped among all the rubble in critical condition.
""During the firefighters' rescue operations, we began providing medical treatment to a woman about 80 years old and two young men about 16 and 17 years old in mild condition with abrasions on their bodies, who were evacuated to the hospital.".
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the police.
