The Houthis in Yemen announced today (Monday) that they have begun imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, within the framework of which any ship belonging to or sailing to its territory will be attacked.
Yahya Sarie, the military spokesman for the Houthis, who are backed by Iran, announced the imposition of the siege - and said in his statement: "The Houthi forces are prepared for all possibilities, and any foolish act committed by the criminal Saudi enemy through a comprehensive escalation will be met with a severe escalation with great force.".
The purpose of the siege: to break the siege that Saudi Arabia has imposed, alongside the Yemeni government that it supports, on the Houthi areas since they took over Sanaa in 2014.
Sarie declared: "Our people have the full right to fight against the siege and oppressive aggression with all the means at their disposal.".
The siege is a renewal of the confrontation with Saudi Arabia, for the first time since the 2022 ceasefire.
