Attorney Haim Bleicher of Mhonenu filed a representation notice and a request for information with the Jerusalem District Commander, Commissioner Avshalom Peled, following a violent attack in which a young Jewish man from a block was seriously injured after being thrown on his head - and defined the attack as an attempted murder.
According to the letter, on July 2nd at noon, when three Jews returned to their car parked on Wadi Hilweh Street, near the Old City, they encountered a group of young Arabs who cursed them, spat at them, and began attacking them with severe violence.
At the same time, objects and blocks were thrown from the roofs of houses, and one of them directly hit the head of one of the young men, fracturing his skull and seriously injuring him.
He was taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital. His two friends were also injured.
The complainants filed a complaint with the police, but the only suspect who was arrested has long since been released.
Attorney Bleicher Mehonu emphasizes that this was an attack on a racist-nationalist basis, without prior acquaintance between the attackers and the victims, which put their lives in real danger - and should be treated as attempted murder.
The letter demands that the police arrest and prosecute all suspects, primarily the person who threw the heavy block that nearly killed the Jew. In addition, there is a demand to seal off the house from which the block was thrown, which the organization claims served as a hiding place for the attacker, and to update the Honenu organization on the progress of the case and its transfer to the prosecution.
Attorney Haim Bleicher: "This is an attempted murder for all intents and purposes - Arab attackers violently attacked young Jews, including throwing objects and heavy blocks from the roof, until one of the Jews' head was hit, his skull was crushed, and he miraculously survived. Such an incident cannot be treated as a mere attack. We expect the police to arrest all those involved, primarily the one who threw the block, and to seal off the house that served as his hiding place. The release of the only suspect who was arrested sends a dangerous message and encourages continued harm to Jews. We will continue to accompany the victims until justice is done.""
