A new civil lawsuit was recently filed with the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court against an Arab attacker, who was previously convicted of a racially motivated attack on a young Jewish man in the city of Jerusalem.
According to the lawsuit, filed by attorney Haim Bleicher and intern Tom Nissani of Mehonu, the incident occurred in September 2019, when the injured Haredi was walking with his friend on Jerusalem Boulevard, on their way to the Western Wall.
The two, who appeared to be ultra-Orthodox, were suddenly attacked without any prior interaction or provocation on their part.
The indictment states that the Arab attacker, who was walking a few meters behind them, threw objects the size of a pill three times at them, out of enmity and hostility because they were Jews. One of the objects hit the injured Jew in the back of his head and shoulder, causing him pain.
For these acts, an indictment was filed against the Arab attacker, and in March 2023 he was convicted as part of a plea agreement of the offense of racially motivated assault.
The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court sentenced him to 5 months of community service, 4 months of suspended prison, and symbolic compensation of 2,000 shekels to the victim.
Now, the injured Jew is seeking to seek justice against the attacker on a civil level as well. The lawsuit details a series of damages he suffered as a result of the anti-Semitic attack, including severe feelings of humiliation, insult, and insecurity.
The lawsuit describes that since the attack, the victim has been on constant alert for fear of being attacked again, and he suffers from fears and anxieties that make his daily life difficult.
The Jew is now demanding compensation in a total amount of 65,000 shekels: 40,000 shekels for pain and suffering, and an additional 25,000 shekels in punitive and increased damages, in light of the fact that this was a malicious attack on an anti-Semitic and racist basis that must be condemned by society.
Intern Tom Nisani of Honenu: "Those who attack Jews will pay the price, this is our message in this lawsuit on the path to realizing the rights of the victim also on the civil level. The Honenu organization will continue to stand guard and ensure that the price is collected from the vile attackers who harm innocent citizens on the streets of the State of Israel.".
