Deputy Foreign Minister, MK Sharan Haskel, submitted a letter of resignation from her position this morning (Wednesday) to Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, until recently the chairman of the 'State Right' party, which she left.
""You lied to me, you lied to the people of Israel. I am resigning from my position as your deputy," Haskel wrote in a letter to Saar.
Haskel announced last night her intention to resign after the approval of the law that freezes the arrest of "deserters" who study Torah.
She stated: "This is a law that harms the servants and the security of the state. It harms those who have served the state for three years and have paid heavy prices. The exemption law was passed, and therefore I have decided to resign from my position in the government - I can no longer stand by.".
Sa'ar's 'State Right' party responded in the X account: "The only reason for the Deputy Minister of Intelligence's rampage is the failure of her attempt to extort party funding money, so that they would allow her to try to trade it in order to obtain a seat in the next Knesset.
""Her attempt to become a single faction just hours before the dissolution of the Knesset - and after she had completed her term as Deputy Foreign Minister on behalf of the faction - is unfounded, impudent, ungrateful and of course does not meet the conditions set forth in the law.".
Political commentator Amit Segal wrote: "The service organizations have been begging Sharan Haskel for two years to resign from her position. Conveniently, she remembered to resign by slamming a door just after the elections began and the pool of flights abroad for the position was drying up.".
