The government approved today (Tuesday) the proposal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Transportation Miri Regev to name Highway 443 "Benefactors' Road, named after the late Minister David Levi" - on the section of the road between the Ben Shemen Interchange and the Bitonia/Giv'at Ze'ev intersection.
The decision perpetuates the legacy and long-standing work of the late David Levy, who served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Construction and Housing, Minister of Immigration and Absorption, and Member of Knesset for decades, and worked to promote social equality, strengthen the periphery, and reduce gaps in Israeli society.
Along with commemorating the name of the late David Levi, it was determined that the road would also be called "The Road of the Levites," in recognition of the area's historical and inherited connection to the Levi tribe and the priests, as well as to the Modi'in area, which is associated with the Hasmonean family.
Highway 443 is one of the central and most important transportation routes in the State of Israel, connecting Jerusalem, Modi'in, Judea and Samaria, the Lowlands and the center of the country, and is used by hundreds of thousands of drivers every day.
In accordance with the government's decision, the Ministry of Transportation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, will work to update the sign along the road, and the Government Secretariat will work to publish the new name in the official records.
