The Likud Constitution Committee, headed by Likud Central Committee Chairman Minister Haim Katz, and with the participation of the movement's chairman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, approved today (Monday) by a majority vote the proposal to change the system of primaries, districts and reserves.
The proposal will be brought to a final vote at the Likud center on Thursday.
During the discussion, several proposals for a temporary injunction were presented regarding the selection method for the Likud list for the Knesset. Ultimately, Minister Haim Katz's proposal, supported by Prime Minister Netanyahu, was approved, which includes eight reservations - up to the 31st place on the list.
In addition, the committee approved a proposal authorizing the Prime Minister to make, if necessary, changes to the districts and reserves in positions 29 to 33 on the list. This proposal was also accepted by a majority vote.
The party's primaries were also postponed to August 17, giving Netanyahu the opportunity to nominate MKs and replace them with reserve members.
According to the approved agreement, three candidates will be placed in the top ten, three more in the second ten, and one in the third ten. It was also determined that ministers and Knesset members will be able to compete within the framework of the districts and sectors.
During the meeting, a confrontation was recorded between the Prime Minister and MK David Bitan - who is running against Netanyahu. According to the participants, Netanyahu told Bitan: "You are welcome to run, we will see how many seats you will bring.".
Following the exchange, Bitan left the meeting in anger.
