A dramatic rescue operation took place this evening (Tuesday) in Carmel Park, after a private vehicle lost control, fell off a cliff about 15 meters high - and slid into a deep wadi.
The police's Galilee-Carmel rescue unit, along with numerous firefighters from Haifa and Hadera stations, were called to the scene.
The forces encountered complex terrain conditions and, due to the depth of the wadi and the thick vegetation, began extensive searches in close cooperation with the police, until the crushed vehicle was located at the bottom of the cliff.
The driver, a 44-year-old resident of Herzliya, was found inside the vehicle. He was fully conscious and in a stable hemodynamic condition, but suffered injuries to his neck and spine, as well as severe pain when breathing. He was trapped and moderately injured.
Due to the terrain conditions and power lines that blocked the airspace, a helicopter that was dispatched to the incident could not drop off fighters in the area, and the rescue was carried out by ground.
A paramedic and a medic from the Galilee-Carmel rescue unit joined the injured man in the pit into which the vehicle had slid and began providing initial medical treatment.
An orderly division of duties was established in the field: Firefighters worked to extract the injured man from the vehicle using rope systems, while rescue unit volunteers provided immediate medical care and accompanied the injured man until he was transferred to rescue teams for evacuation to the hospital.
The driver was treated by rescue forces and taken to Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
