Opposition members of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee today (Saturday) addressed the committee's chairman, MK Boaz Bismuth, demanding that he postpone the vote on the bill to freeze criminal proceedings and arrests of renegade Torah scholars, which is being led by the coalition.
They claim that this is a "new issue" being promoted hastily and without substantive discussion, in a way that harms the legislative process, and that they "need more time.".
In response, Bismuth replied: "Weeks of monologues and media presentations. Your request was not granted.".
Votes on the law will begin this week in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, and then a second and third reading vote will be held in the Knesset plenum.
