The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Friday) in the city's District Court against Eli Leven, a 21-year-old ultra-Orthodox US citizen living in Jerusalem - for spying for Iran.
According to the indictment, in late 2025 and early 2026, Levon, on his own initiative, established contact with elements who identified themselves as "Sina" and "Alexander" who were operating on behalf of Iranian intelligence, and carried out various missions for them.
Even though he should have known that these were foreign agents, Levin continued to contact them and carried out a series of missions for them.
Levon, who lived in the Beit Israel neighborhood, gave them, among other things, documentation of the central bus station in Jerusalem and a building in the Bukharim neighborhood.
According to the indictment, Levon also hid a cigarette box in the Hadar shopping mall in the Talpiot neighborhood, with a note on it that read, "The job is done." On another occasion, he purchased a USB drive, wrapped it in a 50 shekel bill, and hid it in a restaurant in Jerusalem.
He passed the documentation of the operations to his operators.
According to the indictment, for carrying out the tasks, Levon received approximately $861 in digital currencies from "Sina" and an additional $518 from "Alexander" - a total of approximately $1,379.
Attorney Ronit Schantzer Yaakovi of the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office said: "Sometimes a single message on Telegram and an offer for easy money is enough. What begins as a seemingly trivial or innocent task may quickly turn into collaboration with a hostile entity operating against the State of Israel.".
""This indictment illustrates how foreign intelligence agencies are trying to exploit the digital space to locate, recruit, and operate people from within Israel, and how important it is to be vigilant and immediately sever contact with these types of requests. A connection that actually harms the security of the state.".
The investigation was conducted by the Central Unit (YAMR) of the Jerusalem District and the General Security Service.
The indictment accuses Levon of crimes of contacting a foreign agent and providing information to the enemy that could be of benefit to him.
