A signing ceremony for the agreement to allocate the land on which the permanent building of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem will be built was held at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem today (Wednesday).
During the ceremony, a symbolic moment was recorded when Ambassador Mike Huckabee presented Foreign Minister Gideon Saar with a one-dollar bill – in accordance with the terms of the agreement signed between the countries.
In his speech at the ceremony, Huckabee referred to the partnership between Israel and the United States: "This partnership is eternal just as the Jewish people are eternal.".
He then explained the significance of the dollar gesture: "Mr. Minister, I know that the agreement we are signing stipulates that the lease of the land will be for a period of 99 years. And for those 99 years, with the possibility of extension, the payment required is only one dollar.".
Huckabee pulled out the bill and handed it to Saar. "Sir, I want to give you my personal contribution to the people of Israel. Therefore, I will hand you that one dollar, so that you know that we are fulfilling our commitment to you.".
In his speech, the ambassador emphasized: "Iran's threat is not only to Israel but to every American citizen.".
He said: "I asked President Trump why he decided to move the embassy to Jerusalem and he replied: I said I would do it and it is the right thing to do. We say to the world: We stand with Israel. We are proud of our partnership with the Jewish people and the citizens of Israel.".
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said in his speech at the ceremony: "Israel is the United States' most important strategic asset in the Middle East. Just as the United States is essential and irreplaceable for Israel, Israel is essential to the United States and its interests in this region.".
