Protesters from the "Mothers on the Front" movement blocked the "Coca-Cola Bridge" at the entrance to the city of Bnei Brak from Highway 4 this afternoon, in what was defined as a "protest against roadblocks.".
The blockade disrupted traffic in the ultra-Orthodox city, preventing many residents and buses from traveling freely on the holy Sabbath. Families with children were seen walking along the blocked route.
Many residents gathered in front of the protesting women, shouting against the demonstrators: "We will die rather than be drafted" - and chanting: "Advise and sew.".
According to footage from the field, the protesters were seen fighting with ultra-Orthodox Jews who arrived at the scene.
In contrast to the police's behavior at the 'Hapeleg' demonstrations, this time the police who arrived at the scene behaved politely towards the protesters and resorted to violence specifically against the Haredim who had gathered on the sidewalk.
The police even blocked Kahneman Street from Ezra Street to Ben David Street, even though the protest itself was defined as illegal.
Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council, said in response: "Blockades of major thoroughfares are not 'protest', but criminal and anarchist conduct, which repeatedly harms hundreds of thousands of innocent and law-abiding citizens. It is time for law enforcement authorities to start protecting hundreds of thousands of citizens who suffer time and time again.".
