Mossad head Roman Gofman announced yesterday (Friday) to A., deputy head of the Mossad, of his decision to end his term in office.
The head of the Mossad intends to appoint a new deputy from within the organization.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office on behalf of the Mossad for Intelligence and Special Operations read: "The head of the Mossad wished to express his deep appreciation to A. for his 22 years of operational service in the Mossad and his significant contribution to the security of the State of Israel.".
During his service, A. worked at the forefront of the organization's operational activities in three operational wings, commanded two of them and led a series of groundbreaking operations.
For his achievements, he was awarded five Israel Defense Awards.
""A. wished the head of the Mossad great success in his position and made it clear that he will continue to make his experience and abilities available to the Mossad and the State of Israel as needed.".
""The move was made as part of the Mossad head's inauguration, who seeks to shape the senior leadership team that will accompany him in realizing the goals and challenges facing the organization in the coming years," it was reported.
A. headed the Mossad's efforts to change the government in Iran, including within the framework of a new department that focused on the issue.
He is considered a right-winger in his positions and very close to the previous head of the Mossad, Dedi Barnea.
