A Nahal Brigade fighter, who was in military prison for wearing a patch with the inscription "Messiah", following an order from Chief of Staff Zamir - was released from military prison today (Wednesday) after serving 18 days in prison.
The fighter was originally sentenced to 30 days in prison, but was released earlier than expected due to the decision of the commander of the Southern Command, Major General Yaniv Asor, to reduce the original sentence to 20 days in prison.
The prison commander gave me two more days for good behavior.
The commander's decision to commute the soldier's sentence came following a public and media outcry. The soldier's parents, relatives, and friends staged a fierce protest against the severity of the sentence he was sentenced to for the act.
Following the reduction of days and release from prison, the fighter is now expected to return to active duty as a fighter in the brigade's 50th Battalion.
