In both peaceful times and wartime, farmers' going out into the field has become a difficult challenge.

In preparation for Shavuot, the demand for quality fish on the plate is constantly increasing, and the demand for fish such as bream, barramundi, mullet, and even carp is increasing by hundreds of percent.

One of the biggest challenges for fish farmers in ponds these days is going out into the field to check the condition and health of the fish. A new startup from Synovation Eilat - Aqua Sense , allows fish farmers to weigh, count and track fish in ponds remotely, using a unique and innovative automation system.

The technology of the Aqua Sense project by entrepreneurs Haim Rosenbaum and Nitzan Gerzi is based on unique electronic sensing that allows real-time monitoring of fish biomass regardless of water turbidity.

The innovative system developed generates an electric field between electrodes and measures changes in current as fish pass, with signal processing using a multidimensional electrode array enabling the estimation of the length and volume of the fish with high accuracy.

Unlike optical systems, the solution operates continuously and non-invasively even in turbid water.

This is an innovative measuring device that checks the size and weight of fish without having to take them out of the water and from a distance.

The solution allows for savings in manpower, is effective even in ponds with turbid water, increases the health of the fish in the pond, and reduces the risk of disease and exposure to pathogens.

The technology: an electric field instead of eyes - While conventional camera systems go blind in murky water, AquaSense's system doesn't need to see anything. It generates a smart electric field that detects every passing fish, measures its length and volume with incredible accuracy, and streams data in real time - all remotely and completely automatically.

Now, after a successful pilot in the north, with the help of Dodi Gedeh, the operations manager of Aradag, a new and advanced experimental facility has been established based on an algorithm that will "learn" new fish - bream, barramundi and mullet alongside carp - and become the most accurate database in the world of marine monitoring with a process of precision, less manpower use and zero disturbance to the fish.

With the help of innovative technologies in aquaculture, we too will eat healthier.

The SeaNovation Innovation Center in Eilat operates as a central hub for promoting marine technologies (Blue Tech) and climate innovation in the desert region.

The center focuses on developing an ecosystem that combines applied research, entrepreneurship, and industry in areas such as aquaculture, marine biotechnology, renewable energy, and smart management of marine resources.
