The child Shmuel Shechory, 5 years old, was critically injured this morning (Thursday) after being hit by a car on Hazon Ish Street in Beit Shemesh.
Rescue forces called to the scene evacuated the child to Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, performing CPR. At the hospital, doctors fought for his life, but were forced to declare him dead.
The child is the son of Rabbi Yisrael Schori, a Gur Hasidic in Beit Shemesh.
His funeral will take place today at 3:00 PM from the Shamgar Funeral Home to Har Hamenuchot, where he will be buried.
MDA emergency medical technician, Yosef Haim Hauzi, said: "This is a serious incident. The child was lying on the road next to the vehicle, unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, with multiple systemic injuries after being hit by the vehicle. We immediately began performing CPR, which included chest compressions and administering medication, and we urgently evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition.".
Yaakov Jungreiz and Yechiel Rosenberg, United Hatzalah paramedics who arrived first at the scene: "This is a difficult scene involving a 5-year-old pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle. We performed advanced CPR on him and then he was taken to the hospital.".
Shaare Zedek reported: "A 5-year-old boy arrived at the trauma unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in critical condition as a result of the traffic accident in Beit Shemesh. Unfortunately, after resuscitation efforts that began in the field and continued in the trauma room, the teams were forced to declare him dead.".
ZAKA volunteers - Beit Shemesh team were called to the scene of the fatal accident after his death was confirmed, and are working at the difficult scene collecting the findings and treating the deceased with dignity.

It involved a 5-year-old child who apparently ran onto the road and was hit by a passing vehicle. MDA teams evacuated him in critical condition to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. This is a very difficult scene. Beit Shemesh ZAKA volunteers are working on site to collect the findings to bring every last drop of blood for burial.""
Police officers from the Jerusalem District's Beit Shemesh police station are working at the scene of the fatal accident. Jerusalem District traffic accident investigators also arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle was detained by the police.
According to data from the Betarem organization, 21 children and teenagers have lost their lives in road accidents since the beginning of 2026. The data also shows that in the last five years - 2021-2025, 252 children were killed in road accidents, about 20% of which were children aged 5-9.
