Two Israeli citizens - a mother and son - accidentally entered the city of Jenin this afternoon (Thursday), after making a navigation error during their trip.
Shortly after entering the city, they were attacked by dozens of Palestinian rioters.
According to initial details, the rioters threw stones at the Israeli vehicle - whose windows were shattered.
Despite the attack, the two civilians managed to escape the scene on their own, leave the city unharmed, and continue their journey to the Jalma crossing, where they joined the IDF force.
Dramatic footage released after they managed to escape shows their vehicle with a shattered rear window as a result of the attack.
The mother, who works with people struggling with mental illness, said: "My eldest son and I wanted to get to Afula to meet friends. While driving, when we were in traffic, I realized that we had made a mistake and that Waze had taken us to Jenin. When the traffic ended, dozens of Arabs began to approach us, tried to open the doors, threw stones at us and tried to stop us. I drove as fast as I could and managed to get out of there with my son. Thank God we survived.".
Following the incident, IDF forces began operations in Jenin. The forces entered the area where the attack occurred, closed shops in the area, and began interrogating suspects involved in the incident.
The IDF said: "A short time ago, a report was received of two Israeli civilians who accidentally entered the area of the city of Jenin in the Menashe Brigade. The civilians were attacked by terrorists and a brick was thrown at them. As a result of the brick being thrown, damage was caused to the vehicle, but no casualties were reported. The civilians joined the IDF force within a short time at the Gilboa Crossing.
""After receiving the report, IDF forces sprang into action and arrested wanted individuals in the Jenin city area. The IDF emphasizes that entering Area A is prohibited and dangerous for Israelis and constitutes a violation of the law.".
