Police today (Thursday) arrested a 25-year-old East Jerusalem resident on suspicion of threatening to murder the chairman of the Education Committee, MK Zvi Sukkot.
The young man is suspected of sending threatening messages to Sukkot via Facebook, along with pictures of weapons and ammunition.
According to the police, the suspect wrote, among other things: "I always have a weapon, I travel without security checks, I will kill you when I see you.".
Following the threats, the police opened an investigation, arrested the suspect, and took testimony from the Sukkot MK.
At the same time, the Knesset and the Israel Police conducted a situation assessment, at the end of which it was decided to raise the threat level for Sukkot to level 4, along with reinforcing the security system and tightening the accompanying security arrangements.
The Sukkot Bureau reported that the threats were received after a series of tours he conducted of schools in the Arab sector as part of his parliamentary activities, as well as against the backdrop of his activities against the phenomenon of protectionism.
According to the bureau, a number of threatening messages have been received recently, including pictures of weapons.
MK Sukkot: "I congratulate the Israel Police for the swift action and the arrest of the suspect. These threats will not deter me or prevent me from continuing to carry out my public mission. The violence, crime, and illegal weapons stockpiles in the Arab sector are a serious threat to the security of Israeli citizens, and I will continue to act against them with all my might. Anyone who thinks that threats will silence me is mistaken.".
