The eve of saluting the New York Police Department turned into a nightmare for New York Mayor Zohran Mamedani: At the New York Police Department's annual National Night Out event held on Staten Island on Tuesday, Mamedani received a particularly hostile reception from attendees, including boos and a barrage of curses.
According to a report in the New York Post, Mamdani took the stage to address a crowd of about 3,500 residents and families who had come to celebrate and support the police. But as soon as he approached the podium, those present shouted at him to "get out of here," while others gave him a thumbs-down.
The humiliation was painful: he was forced to cut his speech short and fled the stage after less than a minute.
