Drama on the right: The "Strong and Strong Jewish Israel" party of Michael Ben-Ari and Baruch Marzel will be able to run in the upcoming Knesset elections - this after a significant change in the position of the General Security Service.
After Shin Bet chief David Zini recommended canceling his predecessor Ronen Bar's recommendation to disqualify the new party of Baruch Marzel and Michael Ben-Ari, the Registrar of Parties announced today (Tuesday) that he was canceling the disqualification - and approving the party's registration.
Ronen Bar claimed that this is a party with a terrorist ideology and a continuation of the path of Meir Kahane's Kach party.
The Attorney General's Office informed the Supreme Court today that following a re-examination of the intelligence material, the Shin Bet's opinion has been changed, and there is now no objection to the party's registration in the party registry.
The move comes after a petition was scheduled to be heard in the High Court about two weeks ago against the decision of the Registrar of Parties not to approve the party's registration.
According to the Attorney General's Office, the new opinion determined that there are "gaps in the intelligence analysis" and that the existing information does not meet the required threshold to prevent the party from registering.
As a result, the state asked the High Court to strike out the proceedings.
Ahead of the elections for the 22nd Knesset, the Supreme Court accepted an appeal and ruled at the time that Baruch Marzel and Benzi Gopstein were not permitted to run, due to incitement to racism.
