Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to hold digital primaries in Likud.
According to a report this evening (Tuesday) by Shahar Glick on 'Kan News', Netanyahu was impressed by the Democratic Party primaries, which were held digitally and securely - alongside exceptionally high voting rates.
The main reason for holding digital elections is the fear of security escalation.
However, alongside the security consideration, there are two advantages to early elections held digitally: first, they will save millions of shekels for the party; second, they will curb the power of pressure groups that operate mainly at physical polling stations.
The person considered the main driver of the idea is Likud Deputy Director General David Sharan, who also spoke about it this morning in a radio interview.
At this stage, the Prime Minister has only spoken about the outline as a possibility for a complex security scenario, but the assessment among those around him is that it could become a realistic possibility even in a routine scenario.
