US President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing talks with Iran this evening (Monday), saying that Tehran was the one that asked to talk and meet.
The president said: "We are winning big against Iran and ensuring that it will never have a nuclear weapon. When someone asks: Why are we doing this? Simply answer: Because Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. It is very simple. That is all that needs to be said. There is no need to say anything beyond that.".
Regarding the contacts with the Iranians, he said: "Currently, very friendly contacts are taking place between us.".
Earlier, the president also referred to the F-35 deal with Turkey, in light of Netanyahu's arrival in Washington, and said: "She is a good ally, no one will tell me what to sell.".
In response to the question of whether he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are of the same opinion regarding policy toward Iran, he replied that while there are differences of opinion, when it comes to Iran, "our positions are quite close.".
Trump emphasized that if Washington and Tehran do not reach an agreement within the current talks, the US will attack again.
