After the arrest of the suspects on July 6 and after an intensive, covert and overt investigation, which included dozens of testimonies from various parties involved: today (Sunday), the Northern District Attorney's Office submitted a prosecutor's statement regarding the intention to file an indictment against the five suspects, in a case that has been dubbed "Protected Persons.".
At the same time, the court granted the request and ordered the suspects' detention to be extended until Thursday, in order to file indictments and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings.
The five are suspected of collecting protection fees and extorting money through threats from a local council in the north and from wastewater treatment facilities, which constitute national resources - and are also suspected of money laundering and tax ordinance violations.
During the police searches, luxury vehicles, checks, stamps, invoices, Rolex watches worth 300,000 NIS, and more were seized.
At the end of the legal process, the police will request an order for the confiscation of the seized property.
