The IDF is erecting a huge dirt barrier separating the area under its control in the Gaza Strip from the western part controlled by Hamas. This is according to satellite photos published this morning (Tuesday) by the Associated Press.
The Washington Post reported that more than 23 kilometers of barrier have been built in recent months - more than half the length of the Gaza Strip.
An IDF source noted that the barrier is intended to prevent infiltration into Israel and protect IDF fighters and residents of the Gaza perimeter.
