A difficult tragedy: Rabbi Eliyahu Yisrael Abba Shaul, a 59-year-old resident of Bnei Brak, passed away suddenly last night (Sunday) while traveling with his family in Ramat Gan.
The deceased arrived at the park in Ramat Gan near midnight, where his traces suddenly disappeared.
Around 2:00 AM, a report was received at the ZAKA hotline about his absence and that there was a real fear for his life - and volunteers from the ZAKA Missing Persons Unit were rushed to the scene, began extensive search operations and established a search and rescue unit in the Ramat Gan area, after indications were received about his recent whereabouts.
A short time later, during searches conducted by volunteers in Wadi Kufer Park (Yedidiya Park) on Hatfutsot Street in Ramat Gan, the young man was found unconscious.
The unit's volunteers, who also serve as rescue drivers, along with the medical teams called to the scene, performed medical examinations, but unfortunately had to declare him dead at the scene.
Upon determining death, ZAKA volunteers from the Emet Charity Unit were called to the scene, who acted with dedication and respect for the deceased, treated the scene, and assisted the Israel Police forces and the ZAPA investigators.
The body was transferred for further treatment and investigation to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
The cause of his death was a sudden cardiac arrest, resulting in his collapse.
Nati Tsishinsky and Shmuel Raani, night watchmen and volunteers of the ZAKA Missing Persons Unit, said: “As soon as the report was received by the ZAKA call center, we went to the field together with other volunteers. We knew that this was a sensitive case where every minute could be critical. Unfortunately, during the scans, we located the young man without any life.”.
Yossi Teitelbaum and Yossi Karakokli, volunteers from the Emet Charity Unit at ZAKA, who treated the scene, added: “Immediately after the death was determined, we acted with the dignity of the deceased and with all the necessary sensitivity. We treated the scene together with the police and the MASJ, paying close attention to every detail, in order to bring the deceased to a dignified burial.”
At the same time, ZAKA volunteers accompany the family members during their difficult hours, while the ZAKA legal division works with all relevant parties to ensure the release of the deceased's body as soon as possible, to allow for his burial with dignity.
Rabbi Eliyahu Israel Abba Shaul, z"l, abbot of the 'Beit Shlomo' kollel in Tel Aviv, is the son of Rabbi Mordechai Abba Shaul, z"l from Jerusalem, who served as librarian of the 'Porat Yosef' yeshiva in the Geula neighborhood, and the brother of Hacham Ben Zion Abba Shaul, zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva of the 'Porat Yosef' yeshiva and owner of 'Or LeZion'.
He left behind nine children, four of whom he had not yet married.
