Channel 14 commentator Yaakov Bardugo revealed that he met with Shin Bet chief David Zini and his assistant in his office, with the aim of demanding the opening of an investigation following the leak of the date of the attack in Iran to Channel 12 personnel - which allowed the channel to prepare for broadcast when the "Harry's Roar" attacks began.
The revelation came after Haaretz reported that the Shin Bet investigation was opened following Bardugo's request.
In response to the report, Bardugo said on a broadcast on Gali Israel radio that a meeting did indeed take place between him and Zini, in which he raised his demand to open an investigation.
He said that after the meeting was published, he suspected that its very existence had been leaked from within the Shin Bet.
""There were three of us in the room. That Uncle Zini would talk to the journalists and tell them that it was following a request? I ask him questions about the investigation, who is leaking this.".
He added: "I'm sitting there in the room and I realized that more journalists came after this. I'm not a journalist, I'm a media person. I came for one issue, are you taking this out on the journalists?""
It is alleged that Zini initially expressed to ministers his position that an investigation into the matter was not feasible or legally justified, due, among other things, to the large number of potential suspects.
According to the published information, he later contacted the Legal Advisor to the Government with a request to approve the opening of an investigation against Channel 12.
According to a report by Avishai Greenzig on Channel i24, another Shin Bet officer was present at the meeting by virtue of his position. That Shin Bet officer is a first-degree relative of a well-known Channel 14 journalist.
Due to the legal prohibition on publishing the identities of Shin Bet employees, no further details can be provided.
The Shin Bet is not responding.
