Israel recently passed on new intelligence to the US that elements in the Iranian regime discussed a plan to assassinate President Donald Trump.
According to a report by Barak Ravid on Channel 12, two senior American officials said that the information Israel provided was not about a specific and detailed plan to assassinate Trump, but rather isolated information about general discussion on the subject between Iranian officials, without further verification.
The officials said that the information provided by Israel is useful in the context of general surveillance of threats against Trump, but the American intelligence community does not treat it as warning information about an intention to carry out an attack in the immediate future.
One of the American officials said that over the past year, Israel has conveyed several similar reports about discourse by Iranian or pro-Iranian elements who talk about the need to harm President Trump.
President Trump hinted at threats on his life on Wednesday, speaking to reporters during a visit to Turkey. "They want to eliminate the leader of the United States — me," he said. "I'm on all of their lists. I saw this morning that I'm on every single one of their lists. So far, I guess I've been a little lucky, but maybe it won't last much longer.".
This week, at the funeral of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, they chanted for Trump's death and waved a giant sign that read: "We will kill Trump.".
One of the speakers at the funeral shouted: "Whoever killed my imam, why don't we kill him? This is our disgrace. If we don't kill the murderer, from now on we will wear shrouds instead of ordinary clothes. I swear by your blood, the murder of Trump is on our necks, it is our duty. Never give up your revenge.".
Iran has publicly pledged for years to take revenge on Trump for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, who was the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, during the president's first term.
