The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Thursday) with the Beer Sheva District Juvenile Court against a 16-year-old boy from Ashdod, after he allegedly set fire to the 'Pescado' restaurant in Ashdod.
According to the indictment filed by Attorney Amit HaMashiri of the Southern District Attorney's Office, several weeks ago, at night, the boy arrived at the restaurant riding an electric scooter, wearing gloves, a sock hat and a motorcycle helmet, and in possession of a bottle of gasoline.
According to the indictment, the boy first smashed the glass of the restaurant's entrance door with a stone and left the scene. About half an hour later, he returned to the restaurant, entered through the smashed door, poured gasoline around the place, and set the restaurant on fire.
The fire quickly spread and also caught the boy's leg, who was burned and fled on his scooter.
A passerby who noticed the fire called the rescue forces, and fire crews brought the flames under control.
The indictment also states that after the incident, the boy fled to an abandoned apartment, where he hid for several days and tried to treat the burns he suffered.
Five days later, he was located by the police, arrested and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
As a result of the fire, the restaurant suffered significant damage to part of its area and its operations were suspended for a period. The boy himself suffered second- and third-degree burns to his left leg.
The teenager was charged with arson, malicious damage to property, and breaking into a business.
The case was investigated by the Ashdod station.
