Rescue forces, firefighters, and the police were called this afternoon (Wednesday) to the A-Tur neighborhood in East Jerusalem following a report of an unusual incident at a beauty salon.
According to reports from rescue forces, 19 women were injured.
The injured were evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem, Hadassah Mount Scopus and Shaare Zedek hospitals.
Shaare Zedek reported: 3 women from the A-Tur incident were brought to the Emergency Medicine Department at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The 3 women are in moderate condition and conscious and are being treated by the emergency medical team.
Hadassah Medical Center said: Victims with CO (carbon monoxide) poisoning from the incident in A-Tur were evacuated to Hadassah hospitals.
At Hadassah Ein Kerem - 5 adult female victims in moderate condition, conscious. They will be transferred to a pressure chamber for treatment. At Hadassah Mount Scopus -
10 victims: 4 girls and 6 adults.
All are conscious, 7 of them in moderate condition and the rest in mild condition.
From Mount Scopus, 8 patients will be transferred to Hadassah Ein Kerem for the pressure chamber, and in addition, 3 more injured women will be transferred from Shaarei Tzedek for treatment in the pressure chamber.
In total, as of this time, 16 injured women will be treated in the pressure chamber at Hadassah Ein Kerem.
The incident took place on Sheikh Inbar Street and some of the victims were unconscious when rescue forces arrived.
Paramedics Fadi Dekidek and Lishi Shemesh and paramedic Eli Eisenbach said: "When we arrived at the scene, we saw a lot of commotion and 12 injured women came out of the cosmetic salon, some of them in a hazy state and the rest fully conscious, after apparently inhaling a dangerous substance. We provided them with advanced medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital in moderate to mild condition.".
At this stage, the suspicion is being investigated that the source of the incident was a generator that was activated in the basement of the beauty salon and, according to the suspicion, caused the spread of the dangerous substance.
The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
The Fire and Rescue Department reported that firefighters from the Egoz station responded to the scene following reports of the evacuation of the women. It was also reported that an initial investigation by the professionals indicated that a generator that was connected piratedly was activated at the scene.
As a result of the poor connection, the toxic gas carbon monoxide (CO) was emitted and accumulated in the space of the building.
It should be emphasized that following the actions of the fire and rescue forces, there is no danger to the public near the building or in the nearby residential apartments.
